Usually balance is a huge problem for robots—they generally don’t have the ability to self correct quickly enough to stay upright. With enough money and technology, though, anything is possible.
While definitely on the creepy side (that constant whine occasionally haunts my dreams,) the ability for BigDog to climb difficult terrain and carry 120 pounds of equipment makes me wish I had a couple. One for each foot. The channel for Boston Dynamics has quite a few other nifty videos, including a cute LittleDog and a bipedal, human-like robot named Petman.
